After recognizing and contextualizing, when your ideas stop at being passive or existing at the mental level, and turning into an active step of intervention for oneself or for others, you are already at the stage of managing your intervention. Before anything, else, let us pause to emphasize here that we are differentiating between two concepts of managing --- one as a general management process, and the other, as process of internal control. Again, we are referring to the latter – the process of internal control. Managing is actually the third form of interventive process of control at the time your chosen form and measure of intervention is at its stage of implementation. Unlike in a setting of work where office intervention is always included in “action plans” or “strategic plans”, the intervention happening at the personal level coming from oneself or others is usually an answer to a pressing concern, which you are addressing as a situational leader or a formal manager. Therefore – all forms and the very nature of intervention at personal level at the stage of managing is called “service”. If your intervention is aimed at helping yourself, you are doing personal care services. If you are extending your intervention to others, then your service gains private to more public face. Let us continue the talks on boundary exchange, wherein your personal intervention is aimed at being implemented as service to address an organizational need. At the implementation stage of the intervention, the form of internal control is already called service management. The service management here is your personal intervention --- that is, you decided to intervene because of a need. This is akin to but less formal than the service management of organizations, which usually addresses the growing needs and orders of client, and preempting the bottlenecks of issues in service delivery. Let us use as an example here Video No. 11, for the topic of telecounseling as mental health support. As an organizational response – telecounseling – the way Dir. Herman Briñas tackled it came as a response of his university to address the counseling needs of students beyond the traditional face to face modality as arising from the limitations imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic. That is service management at the organizational level. But there is service management taking at personal level taking place side by side with organizational intervention. Let’s make sense of Video No. 11. Did you notice that Dir. Herman Briñas introduced himself as the head of the proponent office for telecounseling services? He also explained why he imparted what he knows about the topic of the congress in light of his work with his university and the Philippine society in general. Then, he explained how his office conducts the telecounseling services. What was there in the discussion? The purpose of Governometrics is not to tell you that a telecounseling service was launched and you have to copy the formula. It is for you to understand that service management as a personal intervention only becomes successful when --- • There is a legitimate need for the existence of service as a form of intervention. • The management of the service as a form of intervention is what you are ready personally and even psychologically ready to handle. • And the management of the service as a form of intervention falls under your expertise. Notice that our resource speaker did not mention all other features of telecounseling that he himself is not knowledgeable or adept to discuss. He did not discuss the therapy sessions that psychologists or psychiatrists are doing because he was very much attuned with his field of expertise --- which is on education counselling. He also did not tell us that he did or implemented everything from scratch --- he said he mans the office but the specific work and tasks were delegated to other office staff. Such is the kind of service management that you could implement for yourself and others if you intend to activate your idea of addressing a mental health concern. Work within the area where you are really capable of doing. You can stretch yourself that far but not too far to be overstretched. Is the point clear about service management? Video No. 11 is a good material for service management because while it speaks of the nitty gritty of telecounseling services, the purpose of the presentation is cut out for making everyone understand that your intervention in mental health will only make sense if there is a legitimate need for it, the management of the service is what you have readiness to implement, and you are professionally capable of handling and accounting yourself for. Thus, managing ensures the implementation of your intervention as a form of service revolves around the three factors. Issues would arise demanding solution for your intervention overtime. But, what is important to bear in mind is that your managing of such an intervention comes along with stable parameters as earlier mentioned – and they will never change ---- that is why your capability could grow into a competency and even much more than competency when you discover newer routes of intervention in your management of internal control. The fact that you have your stable parameters to support your managing tells you as well that you have gone past the stage of reactivity. You are responding and your actions and decisions have gone beyond emotional and instinctive schema. When you are in the right track – you will never experience burn out. Perhaps, occasional weariness and normal levels of anxiety and frustration when there are setbacks. But you will always feel focused, alive and you will always take an inspired action. Why?
