This is the story of Lord Ganesha. Ganesha was created from the herbs and oils used in the cleansing of the goddess Parvatis body, it was from this she molded a statue which gave life to Ganesha. Ganesha was raised to guard the door while his mother Parvati was bathing herself. The young god was born while his father Shiva The god of destruction was on a journey and their for did not recognize each other as father and son. Ganesha had a strong bond with his mother sometimes to the point of jealousy and overprotection. While Parvati was refreshing herself Shiva returned from his quest and wanted to reunite with his wife. When he tired to walk past Ganesha get to his wife the god was blocked by Ganesha. Enraged Shiva ordered his son to move which Ganesha refused having no idea who he was. The two quarrelled for some time before Shiva enveloped with rage beheaded the young boy: Parvati who heard the commotion rushed to help her son and was horrified to find him beheaded and on the ground. Heartbroken Parvati Ordered Shiva to bring her son back to life. To end her suffering The god of destruction agreed to resurrect the boy but he would need a new head. Shiva ordered his servants to bring him the head of the first beast they encountered. The elephant was the fist to appear they brought the elephants head to shiva Who placed it on what once was his sons head. The young god was arisen and dispute his new appearance Ganesha was quite pleased with his good looks. Together Shiva and Parvati would raise the young god who would become one of India’s most popular
