What Is Chakra? Chakras are centers of energy located inside or outside the body, although not visible to the human eye. These energy centers are tapped into when we meditate or practice ayurvedic medicine. There are several energy centers and thousands of channels through which this pure energy passes. Although we primarily focus on seven of the major chakras, some say they are as many as 114! For now, we will be discussing only the seven main chakras that align at the spine. We start from the root chakra, located at the base of the spine, to the crown chakra at the head’s top. Chakras are like a gateway where the physical and consciousness meet. The energy given off is called prana, which in Hindu literature originates from the sun to connect the elements. This prana is what keeps us alive and healthy; some would describe it as our life force. Each chakra connects to major organs and nerve centers in our body and contains our emotional, spiritual, and psychological states. For your chakras to function normally, they have to stay aligned and open to facilitate this fluid energy movement that powers our wellbeing. If one or more than one of these chakras are blocked. Then the energy cannot flow properly and will, in time, result in stagnant energy, which will create various physical, emotional, and psychological imbalances. It is easy to keep your chakras open and connected with energy flowing as it is supposed to be aware of them and tell when you have an imbalance because balancing one helps balance the others. Listed below are the seven chakras, what major body parts they are associated with, what they represent, and many more. Starting from the root chakra and slowly working our way up. The Root Chakra is called Muladhara in Sanskrit, which translates to “root support.” As its name implies, it relates to groundedness, security, financial independence, and our survival instincts. This chakra connects to our feelings of safety, basic needs like food, water, and shelter. It is located at the base of the spine and balanced with the color red. So, wearing red clothing items, surrounding yourself with red decor can help deal with an imbalance in this chakra. When the root chakra is blocked, you are most likely to have issues with your feet, bladder, colon, and lower back. Emotionally, you will find that you might suffer from anxiety disorders, fears, or feel disconnected from your body. The Sacral Chakra is called Svadhisthana in Sanskrit, which means “one’s own home.” It connects to our sexual and creative energies. It is also responsible for the relationships we have with other people, new experiences, and healthy boundaries. Situated just below the navel, it is responsible for our pleasure, feelings of abundance, desire, emotional balance, and happiness. When this sacral chakra is imbalanced, you will find yourself unable to function sexually or feel motivated to create anything. Surrounding yourself with the color orange will help fix any imbalance or blockage you have in your sacral chakra. The Solar Plexus chakra is called Manipura in Sanskrit, which literally translates to “gem city” and can also be referred to as the lustrous gem. It controls our self-esteem and is responsible for our feelings of self-worth. It is also linked with our sense of purpose, fears, and anxiety. It is connected to anything digestive, metabolic, or stomach-related. Energetic blocks in the solar plexus chakra can lead to anger issues, low self-esteem, and digestive-related problems. You can also manage any imbalance in this chakra by visualizing the color yellow. The Heart Chakra is called Anahata in Sanskrit, meaning “unhurt.” It symbolizes the point where the spiritual and physical meet. It controls all the organs in the chest and rules our feelings of love and spiritual awareness. When there is a balance in your heart chakra, you can love and feel compassion for the people around you. It also controls our sense of inner peace. So, when it is imbalanced, there will be feelings of hate for oneself and others, jealousy will also become a dominant feeling, and this can stand in the way of any love you might feel for yourself or others. Physically, you might have some heart, circulatory or pulmonary issues. Wearing green clothing items, decorating, or painting your room with green will help balance your heart chakra as this color vibrates with the right frequency to match the heart chakra. The Throat Chakra is called Vishudda in Sanskrit, meaning cleansing or purification, and as you might have already guessed, it is responsible for all areas of communication. It ensures you are being verbal about your true feelings and listening to other people when they communicate. Your throat chakra will most likely get blocked if you keep a secret or be untruthful to yourself and others. You are afraid to speak up because of fear of judgment or shyness. Physically, you might have tension headaches, stiffness in your neck, shoulders, sore throats, and many other issues around your throat region. The color blue can do a lot when there is an imbalance, so pick out that blue shirt at the back of your wardrobe and watch it do wonders. The Third Eye Chakra is called Ajna in Sanskrit, and it translates to “command.” It is responsible for your sense of perception, wisdom, memory, decision making, and imagination. Sometimes, when you feel like your instincts are perking up, the third-eye chakra is responsible. When it is imbalanced, you’ll find it hard to trust your intuition and might have feelings of anxiety and depression. Physically it might relate to recurrent headaches, dizziness, memory issues, vision problems, and many other brain-related problems. Indigo is the color that helps with balancing this chakra, so surrounding yourself with it can help. The Crown Chakra is called Sahasrara in Sanskrit, which translates to “a thousand-petaled.” It serves as a meeting point for your physical and astral body, helping you achieve a higher consciousness state. This chakra is what helps you grow spiritually and gives you that much-needed connection to the Universe. This chakra gives you spiritual insight and frees you of all attachment to material things. Imbalance of the crown chakra is manifested through feelings of isolation, the stress of the body and mind, and, when overactive, can result in losing feelings of empathy. White is the color of balance in the crown chakra and can be used to deal with imbalances. I have mentioned chakra imbalances several times in this video, and I am sure you are wondering how to stop that from happening. We are humans, and sometimes things happen out of the plan, so what do you do when these negative energies block your chakras? Let’s head to the next video to answer that!
