During the fifteenth century, under the Aragonese dominion in Naples, Alejandra Maddaloni, the wife of Spanish noble, lived in the castle of Vicalvi. Alejandra's husband was engaged in the war against the Angevins andshe was often alone and fill her sense of loneliness with others men. After having satisfied her carnal desires, giving these men a night of love, she brutally killed them. When some corpses were found by the inhabitants of the area the reality of the facts came to the surface, the husband had his wife locked up in one of the towers, where she was chained and walled up alive. After the death of Alejandra Maddaloni, over the centuries there have been many testimonies, even very recent ones, of people who have sighted the ghost of a female figure, sometimes preceded by a noise of chains and laments, in the surroundings and in the castle of Vicalvi . In recent decades, many young people have chosen the fortress to end their lives and have done so by throwing themselves from the towers or the surrounding walls.
