Jona sighed, looking out the window of his father’s beat-up grey minivan. His 8-year-old half-sister Jemma was playing with her plush cotton candy blue bear and getting Cheerios all over the backseat. He wished he could be anywhere but here. Jona’s mother and stepfather had died under mysterious circumstances, so he and Jemma were moving to his father’s house on the coast of Lake Michigan. That would have been great if his house hadn’t looked like the construction company got lazy halfway through and just slapped the rest of the mortar and other stuff all over the frame. He hadn’t been there in person yet, but he’d seen pictures of it. It was a dump on steroids, at least on the outside. The pictures only showed that part of it.
