WINDSURFING, SPOT REVIEWS: CANNES (PROVENCE - COTE D'AZUR, FRANCE) - Second part The spot, with East wind, can be crowded, even in winter time. There is room for everyone, but it is necessary to take care to avoid collisions. Unfortunately, it is ubiquitous the presence of Kiters, who have invaded the spot. There are quite a few (but not so many as in Hyeres, for example), but they really are everywhere throughout the spot, except perhaps in the vicinity of the Cape. It must be said, however, that crowding is greater in the middle of the day. Until mid-morning, and at the end of the afternoon, windsurfers who stay in the water can enjoy the spot, making waveriding safely, in the best areas that the spot offers. It's also convenient the logistics on the ground. If you do not find parking along Boulevard Gazagnaire, the public car park at the Cape, at least in winter, offers plenty of places for everyone. If you park there, and do not want to leave from the beach near the parking lot, carring the equipment up to the Boulevard Gazagnaire beach is not so complicated. At the entrance of the parking lot, there is a concrete platform where there are two taps, where you can rinse the equipment. Along the beach, there are also some showers, useful to get rid of the sea water, before leaving the spot at the end of the session. Finally, in Avenue Reine Astrid, there are public toilets. In the same street there is also a small windsurfing shop (Island Feeling Surf Shop). What more do you want? As far as for hotels/accomodation and bar/restaurants concerns, well, you're in Cannes, and you'll be spoiled for choice. Cannes is a very beautiful town, with a pleasant historical center, located around the castle, and a spectacular promenade, at the beginning of which, you will find the building which hosts the famous Film Festival (in May). Obviously, considering the importance and exclusivity of the resort, many eateries and hotels have high prices. But you also will finde adequate facilities, if you want to keep the costs low. At the time, we have only gone to sleep at B&B Hotel in La Bocca plage, which is located in a suburban area (mostly industrial), but it is clean, quiet, and with spacious rooms (for being a low-cost hotel). Breakfast there is quite good, and you have a gated underground parking (to be paid separately). If desired, there are two other B&B Hotel, more distant from the spot, located near Antibes (Le Relais, and Sophia Antipolis), which is also a very picturesque village. In the area there are also other economic-end solutions, including primarily the Ibis Budget (Accorhotels). As for places where to eat, you can look for something on TripAdvisor, or you can have a walk in the old town, and find solutions within the reach of your budget. For a main course with vegetables in a mid-range restaurant, consider some 30 euros to pay (15 euro for a pizza). Otherwise there are a few bars/pubs, where you get by with around 20 euros (2017 prices). We had dinner from Steak and Shake (sandwiches with acceptable burgers). In conclusion, Cannes is a very funny spot. To enjoy it fully, it's better to know it well (and this review certainly will help you). In case of winds over 40 knots, be careful, because, as mentioned, the spot has some pitfalls. Hang loose. Fabio
