“Kiacatoo,” by Kevin Gilbert, is a poem that tells the reader about the theme of a massive massacre of aboriginal people by white settlers. Evidence can be found in this quote, “they’re cutting us down like wild dogs.” A tragic line that goes well with a simile which displays how harshly the aboriginals were tracked down. This represents the disrespect the aboriginal people got from white settlers, as a result the massacre of aboriginal people by white settlers is a really important theme from the poem “Kiacatoo.” Although there is only one major theme in the poem “Kiacatoo,” there are some small themes such as fighting over land, which was resolved. A sample can be found in this extract, “The land is now all allocated.” Even though this has no simile, metaphors, personification, or anything related, this extract tells the reader that all the land was distributed, hence there are no violent clashes anymore between the different races.
