WINDSURFING, SPOT REVIEW: FUERTEVENTURA (CANARY), NORTH SHORE - Third Part. “Rocky Point o Punta Elena” In general, it works better in winter with low pressures coming from the east. When sea at the North shore is huge, here you go out even with 3 m waves and side wind, with fun and pretty easy swell, even if great. There is practically no shore break; the only bad thing you have to consider is that the rocks are really sharp and annoying under feet. Here, shoes may prove useful, especially at low tide. With high tide, a couple of beaches are available, good to go out and come back, but, as always, pay attention to your fins because the seabed is not regular!! Another chance you have is to start from the jetty of the Ventura center and go upwind a bit, but, at least for me, when I see the waves, I throw myself without thinking too much at my feet ... Well, for now, we stop. The next episode, we will go to see the Fuerteventura North Shore, and its beautiful spots, but before I leave you, I give you a bit of logistic information, which, in some cases, will make your stay on the island unforgettable ... Besides the two aforementioned centers, in Fuerte you can rent equipment at: CORRALWIND: managed by the excellent Giampaolo Mano, a very nice and friendly Tuscan guy, which opened a few years ago a nice shop that also offers windsurfing courses, sales equipment (surfing, kite and windsurfing), and, recently, reached an agreement with SAILBOARDS TARIFA for renting windsurfing equipment and sup. All in collaboration (even for courses or photoshoot) with Victor Moncloa, one of the strongest local rider in Fuerte. I had the chance to try the SBT the boards very well, and I finally ordered them the custom that, since long time, I have with me in all my wave sessions. To Contact Giampaolo: [email protected]; Phone: +34 691 379496, or he can be found on facebook writing Corralwind. WITCHCRAFT: other beautiful boards, manifactured here in Fuerte, with sales and rental center located in Lajares (on the left of the long straight road before entering the village). The company also produces directly masts, sails, and accessories ... courses (and fotoshooting) by Yannick Anton, very strong French athlete, who moved to Fuerte, after an injury that took him out of the PWA circuit. OCEAN CALLING: also in Lajares (in the village), which is an authorized RRD rental, and windsurfing and kitesurfing school. Well, now we just have to go out for dinner ... At Fuerte you eat generally well, fish or meat at reasonable prices. Below, I recommend some places to go. At Corralejo "Avenida": family-run, you spend little (fish and meat), very good and very generous portions! Old and very typical establishment, which does not take reservations and is usually pretty crowded. The "Arroceria" more refined, higher prices, but amazing Paellas ... (strongly recommend the paella negra). The restaurant is small, and (despite being in the center) is not easy to find ... you've better booking! "Meson Tejas": we call it the Avenida 2, because it was born by a "family split" of two brothers who once ran the Avenida togheter... less typical environment, but closer to the center. Menu and prices virtually identical. "Da Uli": if you have nostalgia for the Italian kitchen, Uli is for you ... he prepares mostly take away food at reasonable prices; but he also has a few tables outside. Excellent solution for something to eat at noon. Outer of Corralejo In Villaverde, there is my absolute favorite restaurant: "Casa Marcos": very nice atmosphere, refined dishes, still affordable prices, even if a bit more expensive than the average of Fuerte ... I advise you to let yourself be guided by the very nice "Maitre" Bruno (tell him also the name of Max and Margherita; he will surely remember of us), and, once you get to dessert, trust me, and taste the "polvido" ... Just before Casa Marcos (on the left of the road), there is "El Horno", great restaurant, mainly meat dishes. A Lajares, I suggest you go listen to good music at "Canela cafe": very cheap prices for everything ... with beers at 1 euro and a half ... At Cotillo, there's the "Vaca Azul", great seafood restaurant; you can't miss it, thank to the blue cow that stands on the roof of the restaurant! Be careful at police checkpoints!!! Alcohol tests and speeding check are frequent ... and remember that the crosswalks here are a must, and to be respected ... RENTAL CAR: I suggest you to go on the internet to book, and possibly take the luggage rack ... Avoid "Goldcar" in any way !!! It seems convenient, but you may find unpleasant surprises, like 150 Euros self cleaning charged to your credit card, once back at home, as happened to us a few years ago ... HOUSE: here I recommend you to search on the internet, because the offer is varied and changing all the time ... When we are in two or three couples, we take one of the many villas with a barbecue and swimming pool, for "unforgettable" barbecues with friends ... For now, it is really all about. The next time, beyond telling you about the North Shore spots, I will give you some more tips, to enjoy a beautiful holiday, all windsurfing and full of relax ... Aloha! Max Rinaldi
