If ‘butterflies’ are what people experience when the anticipation of a new experience takes ahold, then grand swirling murmurations of birds of prey in their thousands are in flight deep within the belly of Palomi Shangazi. Each step she takes toward the stark 80s architecture of her new playground steals her breath and inspires a cold sweat that sweeps from the neck downward and shocks its way south until she feels a fire catch alight in between her naturally tanned legs. This is the beginning of my independence she thinks to herself, the start of my new life, and these are the first steps of my exploration.
