The original play written by William Shakespeare and ‘Othello’ (2001) a film inspired by Shakspeare’s Othello in 1604, have many similarities and differences. Before comparing the written play and the film we must understand that the two were created at different times for a different audience. The film does not incorporate any Shakespearian English making it easier for the contemporary audience to understand. The film also changed the names of the characters to help the audience as they watch the film for example Emilia Iago's wife in the play has been changed to Lulu in the film The plot although similar has many key differences such as the film not including Roderigo the character in the play that was in love with Desdemona (Othello’s wife).
