Vaanaprastham. Vaanaprastham is a 1999 Indo-French production in the Malayalam language. It was directed by Shaaji N Karun, and co-produced by Moohanlal. The screenplay was written by Shaaji N Karun and Raghunath Paleri. Set in the 1950 Travancore, the plot follows a lower-caste Kadhakali artist, and a woman from an aristocratic family. She sees his performance as Arjuna and lost between reality and fiction, she falls in love with the character. Their relationship leads to the birth of a child, who is hidden away from the male lead's character. For his performance, Moohanlal won both Kerala, and the National award for Best Actor.
