The Government of India passed three farm bills in the parliament to prompt the long pending reforms in the agriculture sector. The bills aimed at encouraging private investments in farming, deregulating the government APMCs to ensure a free open market. However, this move wasn't taken well by the farmers and unions who went on to form a massive campaign against these contentious laws. Initially, the farmers protested in the states of Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. But later in November, the call of "Dilli Chalo" was raised. The protestors surrounded the capital city from its five busy borders and created long stretches around it. Tens of thousands of farmers gathered these borders and demanded the immediate repeal of these laws and urged the Government to ensure the MSP (Minimum Support Price) for their produce.
